Michael D. West, Ph. D., is a molecular gerontologist and entrepreneur having founded 10 biotechnology companies and acted in senior management of six public companies. He was the founder and CEO of AgeX Therapeutics (now Serina Therapeutics (NYSE: American: SER)). Prior to that, he was CEO of BioTime, Inc., (now Lineage Cell Therapeutics (NYSE American: LCTX)), and prior to that CEO of Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) (now Astellas Inst. for Regenerative Medicine). Prior that, Dr. West was founder, director, and CEO, and CSO of Geron Corporation (Nasdaq: GERN), where he pioneered and managed programs in telomere biology relating to aging and cancer, and founded the field of regenerative medicine by leading the first isolation of human pluripotent stem cells. In their telomerase research, West and colleagues at Geron cloned the RNA component of telomerase and subsequently collaborated with Thomas Cech (winner of 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry), with whom they cloned the catalytic component of the enzyme.
Ivan Labat, Ph.D., is VP of Bioinformatics of LifeCraft Sciences. Dr. Labat is a veteran of research and development of genome informatics. Prior to joining LifeCraft, he was CIO of Agex Therapeutics. Prior to that, before joining AgeX/Biotime, Dr. Labat was a CIO of Gallo Clinic and Reasearch Center. Over the last 25 years, he has held several biotech industry leadership positions in design, development, and implementation of the next-generation DNA sequencing methods and data analysis and curation. Skilled in NGS Sequencing, genomic and epigenomic data analyses, Dr. Labat has received his M. S. in Molecular Biology and Physiology, and Ph. D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Belgrade. For the last ten years, Dr. Labat has dedicated his faculties to research on extending human healthspan by eliminating age-related disorders, with implications of extending human life.
Hal Sternberg, Ph.D., is VP, Research of LifeCraft Sciences. Prior to joining LifeCraft, he was AgeX’s Vice President of Research for over 25 years and was one of the company’s co-founders. Before that, Dr. Sternberg held various positions at the University of California at Berkeley from 1982 to 1988, where he worked on Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Sternberg was instrumental in the development of the medical product Hextend, bringing it through regulatory approval as a blood plasma volume expander for treating blood loss. Dr. Sternberg received his M.S. in Chemistry (1979) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1982) from the University of Maryland.
